What Do You Hate?

Have you ever noticed that when you really hate something, it's often because you're really bad at it? Take me for example: I have long suspected that I hated poetry. My previous dislike stemmed from the fact that I wasn't able to understand the meaning of the poems I read.

I am now certain that it is hatred that I feel for poetry. Why, do you ask? Well, I'll tell you. This girl who gets A's in every class is now pulling strong C's for her poems. C's! Talk about tragic.

Another thing I have noticed is that we tend to dislike whatever we think we are bad at, even if we aren't actually bad at it. My oldest daughter, Ashley, told her teacher that math was her worst subject. She consistly pulls A's and B's in math, so he was very surprised to hear her say that. When he asked her why she felt that way, she said she is bad at math because it is hard. Math is a more difficult subject for Ashley, and her brain has to work harder than usual to make sense of it, but she is actually still good at it.

Where am I going with this? I have no idea! Maybe I am just trying to avoid working on my homework (poems!). Or maybe the late hour combined with prescription uppers have just made me hyper. Yes, that's probably it. On the other hand, maybe you can actually relate to my crazy ranting?

Do you hate cooking? You probably stink at it, and you should make your husband do it instead. Hate shoveling? Too bad. Shoveling may be difficult, but you are actually very good at it- so you should stick with it. :)

Me, I hate poetry and laundry. So what does that tell you?
