First Day Excitement

Well, I was hoping to sleep in until seven today, but alas, it was not to be. Instead I was awakened at 6:30 by the sound of four excited people making themselves breakfast (don’t worry-it was only toaster strudels). I was still determined not to get up until my alarm went off at 7:00, but by 6:50 the little girls were in my room looking for help with dressing and wanting me to take out their hair rollers. By 7:30 this morning all four children looked adorable, were fed, and had done their chores and brushed their teeth. Sigh. Better not get used to it. Their excitement will wear thin by Wednesday when the exhaustion from getting up early and going to school all day kicks in. From then on out it will be me changing their clothes for them five minutes before they leave with messy hair, chores undone, and dirty teeth. If only I could turn the first day of school excitement into a pill for them to take. Although, I think that may have been done already. Prozac anyone? I wish kids were allowed to drink coffee…I bet that would help.

I hate waking up in the morning, but the school schedule and empty house definitely make for a more productive me. It’s been two hours since the kids left for school and I have already run a load of dishes through the dishwasher, washed two loads of laundry (only one to go!), put out chicken breasts to thaw for dinner, made a small dent in the summer vacation clutter accumulation, and finally managed to read my Bible in peace. Of course, I’m getting kind of sleepy now. How am I going to stay awake in this quiet house? Especially since my next task involves sitting on my butt in front of the computer to write a Theology paper? Guess I better start guzzling coffee. That way I’ll have to pee every half an hour and I won’t be able to fall asleep.

You'll notice there isn't a solo picture of Andrew. Apparently boys have no use for such things. But Ashley and Abby were more than happy to pose for a picture:

  1. The kids look great! Thanks for the pics. Now, get back to that paper and coffee! Good luck today with the quiet, treasure it for as long as you can, you really don't get much of it. Love ya!

  2. Well, Andrew is nothing like me. I'm a bit of a camera hog.
All the kids look great . . . it looks like Ashley has new glasses . . . the older Abby gets, the more she looks like my mother.
    Love the pictures!
